VEHICLES IMPORTED FOR RESALE CAN BE CATEGORIZED AS FOLLOWS:

1) Factory channels – also called OEM
2) Secondary market – Direct Imports

OEM – ORIGNINAL EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURER:

Companies that wish to import vehicles for resale direct from overseas factories should first become recognized as an OEM, a US representative of an overseas builder of US complying vehicles.

R.I. Import Services serves as the US registered Agent for a number of overseas vehicle manufacturers, representing their interests to the federal agencies that regulate them.

R.I. Import Services can obtain OEM status for your company, establish a distributorship, establish a franchise network, develop the compliance package, obtain all necessary state and federal licenses necessary.

OEM entries are imported as vehicles built to conform to US standards.

DIRECT IMPORTS:

Vehicles imported for resale that are purchased outside factory channels, through middlemen, wholesalers or foreign dealers are part of the secondary market, or direct imports.

Once imported, these vehicles are required to go through DOT Registered Importers ( R.I.) for modification to U.S. standards. If your plans include entry of fleets from secondary markets, R.I. Import services can help you obtain an RI license to process these vehicles.
