Importing Personal Use Vehicles

The regulations governing the importation of personal use vehicles can vary depending on the type of vehicle, the model year, which port it enters, the country of origin, and the reason for importation. In general, vehicles that are imported on a permanent basis are required to comply with all U.S. emissions and safety standards in effect on the date it was built. Each vehicle will require a different level of modification by a registered importer to achieve those standards. As a rule of thumb, a typical conversion on a typical late model European-spec car will cost about $ 8,000.

There are a number of exemptions, exclusions, and special circumstances which may apply to your individual case - you may not need to use a registered importer to modify your car. R.I. Import Services will provide you with a regulatory summary of your particular situation.

Go to the Inquiry page and complete the questionaire,  and we will be happy to advise you on the quickest, cheapest  avenue to take when importing your vehicle.
